Account Representative
Summary:
The Account Representative is responsible for all aspects of medical billing including claims submission, payment entry, payer follow-up, and patient statements and communication.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Working in a team environment the account representative is responsible for accurately billing, collecting and maintaining the patient accounts for assigned outpatient rehabilitation clinics. The account representative is responsible for all aspects of the billing cycle including:
• Submitting claims to payers in appropriate format (e.g. electronic or paper).
• Ensuring claims are properly documented and include all required supporting documentation.
• Following up with payers to ensure claims are properly paid in a timely manner.
• Post payments from patients and payers to appropriate patient account in a timely manner.
• Filing claims with secondary and tertiary payers after payment by primary.
• Completing denials and appeals in a timely manner.
• Generating patient statements and responding to patient inquiries in a timely manner. Collaborating with client personnel to ensure timely receipt of information and to maintain positive client relationships.
SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Providing timely feedback to management on product and process improvements to achieve greater billing efficiency.
• Beta testing of software product releases.
• Ad hoc projects as requested.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• AA degree or degree/certificate in medical billing/coding is desirable.
• 3-5 years previous medical billing experience in a high volume environment.
• Experience spanning all aspects of billing and working with a wide variety of payers is required.
• Experience working directly with clinic owners/employees and patient is required. • Outpatient rehabilitation billing experience is highly desirable.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Proven problem solving skills and attention to detail are required.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong computer skills. • Ability and desire to work within a team to achieve results.
SCOPE AND ACCOUNTABILITY:
The Account Representative will interface directly with customers and their decisions and actions will have a moderate impact on customer satisfaction. The individual in this position will be expected to make some independent decisions which will largely be guided by clearly stated standards and processes. Work is generally performed under limited supervision.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position is performed primarily in an office environment. Significant portions of the job require extended sedentary periods, constant work with computers (including extended period of keyboarding), and repetitive motion of hands and wrists.
