Blog Six Things to Get Excited About at APTA CSM 2019 By Taylor Goldsmith, 01.22.19 FacebookTwitterLinkedin Lights, camera, action – CSM! With less than 24 hours before the Clinicient team hits the ground running in D.C. for CSM 2019, we are eagerly putting the final touches on our presentations, prepping our giveaways and packing our suitcases. CSM brings together over 10,000 people from the physical therapy community, including both students and professionals, for a program designed around 18 different specialty sections (yes, there are a whopping 18 tracks going on during each day). The combination of both students and professionals is really interesting to me as it bridges together what is currently being taught in the industry with what has been learned. I guarantee you, both sides of this ‘bridge’ are sure to teach you something. What else do I love about and recommend you do at this year’s CSM event? Let me count the six ways below. The sessions. One of my favorite parts of industry conferences are the sessions held. I urge you to look through the program ahead of time (or, rather, download the CSM app) so you can plan out what sessions are important to you and make those a priority. Think about both speakers and topics when doing this. There’s nothing worse than realizing you missed a valuable session simply because you didn’t plan ahead. Here are my recommendations this year – featuring two from Clinicient leaders! Creating a boutique experience in your clinic: A win for patients and therapists with Clinicient VP Doug Schumann, Saturday at 8:00 am – 10:00 am (get a session preview here!) The Real World: How therapists can thrive in value-based care with Clinicient CEO Kent Rowe and Keet Health GM Holly Taylor, Saturday at 11:00 am – 1:00 pm Success Strategies: Metrics that matter for private practice owners in 2019 with Chris and Stephen Albanese, Thursday at 11:00 am – 1:00 pm Networking with new friends. As stated previously, there are over 10,000 PTs who attend this conference. So, sit with new people during the sessions, share your industry predictions with those at lunch, and grab a beer with your PT hero (seriously, you can’t go wrong with this one. Jerry Durham even knows of a bar inside a bookstore.). Stepping outside of your comfort zone when surrounded by like-minded, incredibly friendly people feels like a no brainer to me. Big names coming together. There’s something so exciting about seeing industry influencers collaborate on fun events or activities at conferences. Keep an eye on the #APTACSM twitter stream where people will usually announce this type of activity. Think joint webinars, podcasts, and lunch hours with people like Stephanie Weyrauch, Karen Litzy, Jerry Durham and many more. Reconnecting with industry friends. You know the saying, make new friends but keep the old. CSM is a great time to reconnect with and strengthen relationships you already have. Leverage social networking sites like Twitter to send your connections messages and ensure you meet up at the event. The exhibit floor. This is one of the most amazing parts of CSM (which is also echoed by Stephanie Weyrauch, here). The exhibit hall is a great place to learn about new technologies and innovations coming out of the PT industry. Don’t feel like you have to stop at every booth though (you will exhaust yourself that way). Look up the exhibitors prior to the show and jot down the booth numbers of the companies or products you are interested in. Remember there is a break in the sessions every day from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm so go explore the exhibit floor during that time. And remember, Clinicient is at booth #1009. Stop by and say hi! Exploring the city! Last but not least, get out and explore Washington D.C.! The conference is held in our nation’s capital this year, so make sure to explore the landmarks while you’re there. Your adventures outside the conference halls won’t be short of fun and excitement (government shutdown or not). In fact, swing by the Clinicient booth to hear about our Friday happy hour which promises to deliver on the fun. We hope to see you there!
