October is here again and it’s time to give a shout out for physical therapy and physical therapists.  Each and every day, we see how individually and collectively therapists are improving health, mobility and the quality of life of countless people.  We want to celebrate the great care physical therapists provide by joining in on the APTA’s National Physical Therapy Month.  You can get involved too.  Below are just a couple of ways.

Spread the Word about Physical Therapy and Get Involved With NPTM

Raise awareness about opioid misuse and how physical therapy can help with pain management

Physical therapy has been identified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the US Surgeon General as an alternative to opioids for pain management.  About a year ago, APTA initiated a public service campaign called #ChoosePT to help build awareness about the opioid epidemic and promote physical therapy as an alternative for pain management.  The APTA offers many resources to help you spread the word.  Visit the #ChoosePT webpage and the National Physical Therapy Month webpage for a campaign tool kit, event planning guide, sample news releases, patient handouts and more.

Give back to your community with PT Day of Service on October 14th

Join other physical therapists and community members as they come together in a day of service.  It’s fun and rewarding to get involved – whether it’s a park clean up, blood drive, working at a food bank, pitching in at an animal shelter or some other community service act.  The event has become very popular, in just two years PT Day of Service has brought together 8,000 volunteers in 42 countries.  To learn more about how you can get involved contact a local ambassador or visit the website for PT Day of Service.
